what is wioa?

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act was signed into effect in July, 2014; and is an amendment of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. The goal of WIOA is to strengthen the workforce system through innovation in, and alignment and improvement of, employment, training, and education programs.


What does the workforce development board do?

Local Workforce Development Boards oversee federal, state, and local funding and direct how those funds are spent through workforce development programs. Workforce Development Board’s also work to provide employment information, career development training, and refer participants to appropriate various programs and partner agencies.


How do i use wioa training services?

The first step is meeting with a WIOA career specialist to determine eligibility. A customer wishing to participate in an intensive WIOA service would need to meet the requirements as defined in our Adult/DW Eligibility Policy or Youth Eligibility Policy. You will then go through WIOA Orientation, which you will work with your career specialist to determine.

can i file for unemployment with the workforce development board?

No, although the Workforce Development Board does partner with Workforce WV, the WDB can not assist with filing for unemployment.


What kind of career services can the workforce development board provide?

What are the requirements for WIOA funded training?

Aside from the Region 4 Eligibility criteria that a participant would need to meet prior to training, participants would also have to maintain, at minimum, a 2.0 GPA. Training Provider Updates will need to be submitted by each participant at the end of each semester/quarter, with the attached corresponding grades. what types of training options would a wioa participant have?

Eligible WIOA participants can attend a training program that is listed on our Demand Occupation List. If a participant wishes to attend a training that is not on the list, they would need to secure an employment opportunity to begin once the training is complete. These requests will require director approval.
